You may add an Ancestor Lineage item to the Person Entry list to add an ancestor lineage value to the person entry.
An ancestor lineage value is the anhentafel number of the current person relative to a subject person or a sequence of descendant names leading from the current person to the subject person. In a list of names, each name may be a link to the person.
For examples of lineage values, see the Format section below.
Enter the title for the item. The title appears as a label of the lineage value in the person entry.
Specify the ID number of the subject. The person entry of any ancestor of the subject will show the lineage value between the subject and the subject.
Use the Picklist button to open the Picklist, a dialog window where you can select the subject by name. If you use the Picklist button, GedSite will set the ID to the selected person's ID number.
The Format determines the content of the lineage value. There are several available formats as described in the table below.
In the descriptions, current person refers to the person whose person entry is being constructed when the Ancestor Lineage item is creating a value.
An ahnentafel number is a pedigree numbering system where a father is assigned his child's number times 2, and a mother is assigned her child's number times 2, plus 1. The subject is 1, the subject's father is 2, the subject's mother is 3, etc.
The following examples show the ahnentafel number of the subject's maternal grandfather.
Example (generation omitted)
Example (numeric generation)
Example (alphabetic generation)
The lineage value shows the first names of the descendants of the current person beginning with the current person's child and continuing through to the subject.
GeorgeC, SarahB, MaryA
|First name, surname on change||
The lineage value shows the first names of the descendants of the current person beginning with the current person's child and continuing through to the subject. If a child does not have the same surname as his or her parent, the child's full name is shown.
George2, Sarah1, Mary Graham0
The lineage value shows the full names of the descendants of the current person beginning with the current person's child and continuing through to the subject.
George Bezanson2, Sarah Bezanson1, Mary Graham0
If Link Descendants is checked, descendant names in the lineage value are links to that person if the person is included in the site.
The Generation Format determines if the lineage value includes a generation indicator. When the Generation Format is "Ahnentafel", the generation value precedes the ahnentafel number. When the Generation Format is set to one of the name variations, the generation value is a superscript following the name of each descendant.
The generation indicator is not included in the lineage value.
George, Sarah, Mary Graham
The generation indicator is a letter. By default, the lineage values range from "A" to "Z", where the progenitor is assigned "A". The letters may be customized by editing the Strings.Generations.Alphabetic Values property via the Utilities > Edit Strings command. The letter assigned to the progenitor may be adjusted via the Generation Offset property.
GeorgeC, SarahB, Mary GrahamA
The generation indicator is a number. By default, the progenitor is assigned zero, but the number assigned to the progenitor may be adjusted via the Generation Offset property.
George2, Sarah1, Mary Graham0
The Generation Offset determines the starting generation number of the progenitor. The default is zero.
If the Generation Format is numeric, and the Generation Offset is zero, the progenitor will have the generation indicator "0" (zero). If the Generation Offset is one, the progenitor will have the generation indicator "1", etc.
If the Generation Format is alphabetic, and the Generation Offset is zero, the progenitor will have the generation indicator "A". If the Generation Offset is one, the progenitor will have the generation indicator "B", etc.
The Generation Offset is ignored when the Format is Ahnentafel.
The Output Type includes two choices as described below. The default is "Field".
|Field||The title and the lineage value are added to the Person Entry. The Format chosen in the Format Section determines the exact output, but the typical output includes the title in column one and the lineage value in column two.|
|Prefix||The lineage value is added to the Person Entry as text. The text floats to the left. You may use this choice to combine the lineage value with other text.|
The Class textbox allows you to specify the name of a CSS class that will be added to the item's container. You may use the class in the selector of a User Style to customize the appearance of any Ancestor Lineage Items with the specified class name.
