GedSite News #045
GedSite Version 3.02 Released
This release includes several important enhancements including the following items which are described in this newsletter.
Please see the Change Log for other details.
Interactive Pedigree Chart
The Interactive Pedigree Chart is a pedigree chart where the visitor can change the starting person of the chart to anyone visible in the chart.
The chart shows a subject and three to five generations of ancestors. A list above the subject shows the names of the subject's siblings. A list below the subject shows the names of the subject's partners and children. The user may refocus the chart to a new subject by clicking icons in the chart or by clicking the name of a sibling, partner, or child.
The chart is created solely in the browser via a script. After the page loads, switching to another person is instantaneous. When navigating within a chart, visitors may use their browser's back and forward buttons to retrace their steps.
The Interactive Pedigree Chart is supported by two additional components:
- The Pedigree Link Person Entry item which you may use to add a link to everyone in the site where the link opens the Interactive Pedigree chart focused on the current person.
- The Pedigree Link User Item you which you may use to add a link to a custom Page or to a site menu to open the Interactive Pedigree chart to a peson you designate.
See the Interactive Pedigree User Item help page for more details including usage information.
"DNA Descendant Of" Filter Term
The DNA Descendant Of filter term may be used to filter or accent people according to DNA inheritance rules for mtDNA, X-DNA, or Y-DNA. This filter term will help you select people for special projects or highlight people in charts.
For more information, see the DNA Descendant Of filter term help page.
Chart People Filter
Several charts now include a Person Filter tab. You may use the Person Filter tab to reduce the set of people included in the chart.
People must pass the basic requirements to be included in a chart before the Person Filter is applied. So, for example, in a descendant chart limited to five generations, a person must be a descendant of the progenitor within five generations. In addition, the People section filters are applied before the Person Filter and so living or excluded people may or may not be eligible to be in the chart.
If those requirements are met, GedSite applies the Person Filter. The Person Filter may decrease the number of people in a chart, but it cannot increase the number of people because of the processing described in the paragraph above.
For example, using a Person Filter with a DNA Descendant Of criteria term may be used to limit a descendant chart to the subset that inherits a particular type of DNA from the progenitor in the criteria term.
