The Tag Type window provides both the Add and Edit Tag Type functions.

Properties

Label

The Label property defines the text GedSite inserts into output pages to identify an instance of the Tag Type.

Enabled

The Enabled property controls whether the Tag Type definition is enabled or not. A disabled item is ignored when GedSite is making the site. Note, however, that if there is a less-specific definition of the Tag Type, such as a predefined definition that is included with GedSite, that definition will be used for processing any instances of the Tag Type.

Name

The Name property defines the identifier that GedSite uses to connect the GEDCOM tag to the Tag Type definition. GedSite assigns names to all the standard GEDCOM name and event tags. So, for example, GedSite assigns the name "Birth" to GEDCOM "BIRT" events.

Group

The Group property controls the genealogical meaning of the tag. For example, any tag in the "Birth" group is treated as birth event, and so tags with different names and labels may be used for that purpose. The default setting is "Use Default", and that's best for most cases; it allows the GEDCOM file to determine the Group based on the GEDCOM tag used to record the event.

It's possible for GEDCOM files to use the wrong GEDCOM tag for an event type. In that case, you can set the Group property to correct that issue.

Origin

The Origin property indicates the source of the Tag Type definition. If the value is "C", the Tag Type is custom, i.e., defined by the user. If the value is "P", the Tag Type was predefined by GedSite.

The label of a predefined Tag Type that has been edited will appear bold in the Tag Type list, but will still show "P" as the Origin. This is how you tell whether you added a completely new Tag Type or edited an existing Tag Type.

Roles

The Roles list includes the Roles defined for the Tag Type. Each Role defines the sentence used for a person attached to an instance of the Tag Type and assigned the given role. See the Role window help page for more details.
