GedSite has several rules for Family Tree Maker (FTM), including rules to map custom GEDCOM records to event types.

Witnesses and Roles

It does not appear that Family Tree Maker supports witnesses or roles. GedSite assigns the role "Principal" to the person who owns an individual event, or to the husband and wife attached to a marriage or other family event.

Sentences

It does not appear that Family Tree Maker includes local sentences in its GEDCOM export.

Names

GedSite treats Family Tree Maker's ALIA GEDCOM record as an additional name record using the "Also Known As" Tag Type. The text value is saved in the Given name field. The surname from the primary name record is added to the text supplied in the GEDCOM record. The default GedSite sentence for the "Also Known As" Tag Type displays the Given name only; adding the surname improves the name index and search features.
